Meter Information

Your meter is located inside your home or garage, usually by your hot water heater.

How do I read my meter?

Under the lid you will see a red sweep hand and a series of numbers on a register.  The red sweep hand indicates water use to the gallon with one full revolution registering a 10 gallon increment.  The second number in black on the register will advance with every 10 gallons that  flows through the meter.  The third number in black will advance with every 100 gallons used, and so on.  Rotation of the small red wheel indicates even the smallest  water use and can help determine a leak when no water is knowingly being used.

To determine water use, record the meter reading and compare to a previous reading.  The difference is the amount of water that has flowed through the meter.  If you are having a problem reading your meter, please contact  Lori Akers.

Meter Reading Information

Meters are read at the end of each month however the dates vary each month based on weekends and holidays.  We use an automatic meter reading system comprised of a transmitter located on your water meter and a receiver located in the meter reading vehicle.  The transmitter is battery operated and sends a signal through a bubble-up radio frequency system, every 4-5 seconds when the receiver is in range.

This system utilizes a Federal Communications Commission non-licensed radio frequency band, meaning it will not interfere with other devices in your home.

Meter Components

The components installed as the water enters a building have specific functions and need to be installed in a certain order. The meter body and attached register measure the amount of water used, the pressure regulating valve (PRV) maintains the water pressure in the house, the water hammer device protects against pressure surges, and the back flow preventer will not allow water from a building to reverse flow into the Districts main distribution pipelines.
